September 28, 2020 – A proper tutorial

Yes, we finally have a proper tutorial level that teaches new players the controls and the basics of gameplay.

It’s not the final version which we want to integrate in the game story, but it works quite well.

In this update:

  • New tutorial level;
  • Fixed touch controls getting stuck upon respawning (iOS/Android);
  • Fixed a previously unknown bug that could make some unlocked characters appear locked in the Heroes tab.

Known bugs

  • Some attacks may hit the same target twice. We already have a fix to that and will publish it very soon together with other small improvements.

September 6, 2020 – Minor update

General updates and fixes

  • Improved overall character controls, their movement is now much more responsive and fluid which is very appropriate to the pace of gameplay;
  • Turned on Bloom on some visual fx;
  • General revision of hit feedback (visual effect, screen shake, etc);
  • Added a small recoil for Fay’s and Guill’s regular attacks and for Mirari’s Slow spell;
  • Added a tiny forward dash for Carlo and Tusk to improve their range and overall playability.

Known bugs:

  • Some attacks may hit the same target twice;
  • Touch controls can get stuck upon respawning.

Other than that we are working on many other aspects such as character customization, the single player mode, a proper tutorial and many other things that may still take a while to be ready for release, but please don’t go away. 🙂


August 10, 2020 – Events and improved bots

This update includes the base for the Events system, which will be used to bring up character dialogues in which part of Myridian’s back story will be revealed. It will also be used in the solo game mode, which will be introduced soon.

The bots AI has also been greatly improved. Expect much harder matches and tough competition even playing alone.

Improvements include:

  • Profile tab allows you to change your nickname should you want to;
  • Main panel now sports a progression bar for the next reward;
  • Heroes’ dialogue events;
  • Smarter and more agressive bots;

July 7, 2020 – Verge power rewards

In this update we’ve added a unlockable rewards associated with your Verge Power. This update lays the groundwork for all player and character evolution mechanics we will soon bring to the table.

Heroes are no longer all available from start. You begin with Carlo and have to either earn the others by gaining Verge Power in battle or summoning them using your Starun crystal.

Potions also need to be unlocked before you can purchase them in the Item Shop.

Each match now consume a given amount of Starun energy.

Other improvements include: 

  • Matchmaker update;
  • Redesigned Shop with Categories tab and Skins preview, though they are still not available for purchase.
  • Character and Loot balancing;
  • Bug fixes in map and level texture overlays;
  • Groundwork for dynamic lighting! (Still under development, but a promising start!);
  • Improved menu navigation flow;
  • Improved Login and ID creation – Create your RATE ID and use the benefits of cross-platform between Steam, Play Store and App Store!
  • Updated match alert system will now notify kills too and gem captures show up with player names, not only teams;
  • New art:
    • The map in the main screen has been replaced by a proper pixel art one (it’s only around 1/8th of what still needs to be drawn though);
    • You can now see how Arcada looks like by clicking on it in the map. More art will be coming both for new places and detail pieces for Arcada;
    • New Donna portrait.

April 19, 2020 – Inventory and Item shop

With this update you can equip 2 items – only potions for now, which you can buy in the new Item Shop using the Starun crystal you earn with each match.

Among other things potions can be used to heal, reset skills cooldown, boost hero speed or jump, etc.

Other improvements include:

  • Hero status bar now also presents a shield health bar when one is active
  • Visual feedback in main panel when you gain/loose Starun and Verge Power
  • Added icons and improved visual feedback when skills are activated
  • Lengthier popping numbers animation for clearer readings of damage/healing

  • Leaderboards so players can compete with one another;
  • Gain or Loose Verge Power depending on the outcome of the match. Verge Power will be an important component of the game economy;

February 13, 2020 – Enormous update!

Wow! So much has happened we’re not even sure where to start… maybe from the beginning…

The public reaction to our beta version at BGS was way better than we could ever dream! Thanks so much for that y’all!!!

That being said, and considering the feedback we had from you guys and the industry we had to take things to a whole new level… So here’s the news!!!

Myridian will be available in a few extra platforms. So now it’ll be on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Android and iOS! Actually the Steam version is already available for Early Access, with brand new things included:

  • AI minions in the air and on the ground to make your life harder;
  • AI bots in case there aren’t enough players for a 3×3 match. They hit hard!;
  • Training Arena and Tutorial: A basic one to test the gameplay;
  • 5 randomly selected available maps;
  • A build system with 3 options for each hero;
  • Rework of the Gems;
  • Major sound update including new voices, FX, spaciality and minor tweaks;
  • Skill aura redesign for Donna, Garret, Tusk and Carlo;
  • More efficient match maker. Faster matches, less lag.;

July 13, 2019 – Huge update!

It’s been a long couple of months but we’ve burned the midnight oil to deliver a late but super improved version!

Project rebuilt from scratch using Unreal Engine version 4.22 (prior version was 4.18)

  • Enabled Flipbooks in UI and Widgets;
  • Ability System completely redesigned (no more skill bugs! At least, not the ones we already knew!lol);
  • Normal maps incorporated to all Alpha maps as well as dynamic lighting (no render on mobile yet though);
  • New animation controlling plugin. Better sound managing, no lockdowns and smoother transitions;
  • Deathlock SOLVED! (as far as one can tell…);
  • Projectile System completely redesigned (a couple of bugs being solved);
  • Improved blueprints for Parallax, moving and teleporting platforms;
  • Random map selection;
  • New matchmaking system, now using PlayFab;
  • 2 brand new heroes in the arena: Guill and Garret. 2 more under way;
  • New voices and soundbanks;
  • New music theme, tileset and map for Craftsmir (where our closed beta takes place);
  • Push and dash systems now fully functional;
  • More interactive landscape elements with sounds and animations (waterfall, foliage, dynamic lighting platforms).

A small update on the game development status…

  • We are migrating the game to Unreal Engine version 4.22
  • Passive skills: amongst the upcoming game features are passive skills. Each hero will have specific traits that gives them advantages. The skill system is being replaced in order to enable this mechanic.
  • We are running tests with spritesheet overlapping to enable skins and custom builds for each hero, thus their equipment and appearance can be customized.
  • Dynamic Lighting. We are also playing with normal maps to give the scenario textures a little more depth.
  • Coming up: more maps, more scenarios, more music, more heroes, refinements, improvements.

New assets

  • Implemented nicknames: heroes are now identified by the nicknames of their respective players. Now you will know who is on your team and who you are playing against.
  • Scoreboard included at the end of the match, showing gems captured, deaths and ranking based on enemies killed.

Improvements

  • The map has been updated with new paths, staircases and lifts, improving access to all areas.
  • Tusk: Skill 2 – “Piercing Strike” upgraded with dash.
  • Donna: her bow now glows when Skill 1 – “Rain of Arrows” is active.

Adjustments

  • New font applied to the damage indicator (still requires refinements)
  • Improved font standards and general size ratio of elements on screen
  • Updated statistics: character’s strength, hit points and speed were balanced
